The MFJ-222 employs a low-power, high-speed dual comparator circuit for precise phase measurements between 1 and 50 MHz. An integrated circuit indicates whether the unknown phase lags or leads the reference signal. It accepts signals from antenna analyzers like the MFJ-269 or any generator providing at least 1 Volt peak output. With a built-in, switchable 50 Ohm load (250 mW max), an external load and BNC TEE are unnecessary in most tests. The MFJ-222 reads the signal's frequency, allowing the use of generators with only coarse or no frequency readout. Setup is straightforward: connect the signal generator output to 'IN', the Reference OUT to the network input, and the network output to 'UNKNOWNIN'. Turn it on and read the phase shift and frequency. A bright, two-line LCD display provides precise phase readout from -180 to +180 degrees without analog meter interpretation or phase polarity guessing. With low-power components, it operates for many hours on a single 9V battery or with the optional AC adapter MFJ-1312D.
